Stop Sign Scare

by Doreen
(Washington state)

You do not need to be in a car accident to endanger your pet.

I was driving in a residential area and did not see the stop sign until the last moment. Needing to come to a sudden stop, my German Shepherd got his entire chest wedged between the drivers seat and the door; which in my car there is very little space.

I had to actually get out of the car and shove him back. I am very lucky that he did not get injured. And I am lucky (he is, too) that he was not sitting between the front seats in the back because he would have gone through the windshield.

When I got home that night I started an extensive search on the internet and found a seat harness suitable for my dog. And even though I could not afford it I got it anyway and it has proven itself many times.

I have written a informative article about safety for animals in cars and am posting or leaving them at places that will allow me to leave them.

I am also looking for other peoples stories and tragedies in order to gain information about this subject so as to go out and start teaching (at least in my community) about animal safety.
