Small Dog Carriers Meet The Unique Needs Of Your Small Dog

Small dog carriers are designed for the comfort and safety of your small dog.
We all know that the smaller something is… the more delicate it usually is.

Well, this is also true for our little k-9 companions.

Our little dogs, with their cute little faces and dainty features are not as rugged as their over-sized cousins.

When we purchase all the necessary items to take care of our little doggies, we have to take their diminutive size into account at almost every turn.

Small Dog Carriers Shouldn't Injure Your Dog

For example, we wouldn’t dream of buying a regular sized feeding dish for your little guy or girl. It would be ridiculous for him to try to eat his food while the sides of a regular sized dog dish press against his delicate throat.

And although he may be hungry enough to keep trying, the constant pressure against his little throat could leave him sore and possibly injured.

Well, it’s the same for your small dog carrier. I’m sure you’ve seen someone carrying their little pup in an over-the-shoulder dog carrier, often with the little dog’s head poking out of the bag. This can be a problem if the carrier is not designed for the comfort of the little dog’s throat area.

Small Dog Carriers That Breathe Easy

It’s also very important to make sure that the small dog carrier you choose has adequate ventilation for the times you need to seal it.

You do not want it to have so much extra material that the vent areas can fold over and close off air circulation.

Most carriers come with recommended sizes and weights so you can more easily match the right small dog carrier to your dog’s particular needs.

Don’t Forget Your Own Comfort

While it’s very important to make sure that you meet the special needs of your delicate little pooch, it’s just as important to make sure you take your own comfort into account.

You will be the one toting your pup’s small dog carrier around… so you’ll want to make sure it has certain comfort features to meet your own needs.

Dog carriers can come in the traditional hard case design or in the newer, softer type. Either way you’ll want to make sure that the handle is adequate to your needs.

Some come with both a handle and a shoulder strap, and these are recommended because of the versatility they offer. Most often you’ll probably want to use the shoulder strap to carry your little dog around. So make sure that the strap has plenty of padding so your shoulder will be as comfortable as possible.

Even if your little dog doesn’t weigh that much, you’ll be surprised how the constant pressure from an unpadded strap will cause discomfort.

And there are going to be situations when you’ll want to use a handle for better control of the small dog carrier in tight places. Like when you need to place it in the car, or under the edge of the table when you stop for a nice lunch with friends. A shorter handle can be very helpful in these situations.
