Selecting Fantastic Puppy Gifts For A New Canine Arrival

Are you looking for puppy gifts for someone who just got a new puppy? Or maybe
they’re patiently awaiting the arrival of their new furry bundle of joy.

All new moms and dads to be... whether their baby is a human or a canine... are going to need lots of stuff for their little bundle’s homecoming.

Just think about it... the parents of that adorable little puppy are going to need things like a dog crate, food and water bowls, a bed, collar and leash, grooming supplies, training aids, dog treats, lots of puppy toys... the list just goes on and on.

It’s easy to understand why new pup parents become overwhelmed by this seemingly endless list of puppy essentials. But this is a great opportunity for you to pick out some terrific puppy gifts for this special occasion.

Ready For The New Pup?

If this is their first puppy and they haven’t read at least one puppy care book they may not be as prepared as they think. Figuring out everything you may need so you’re ready for the new arrival can be tricky.

But we’ve got some great puppy gift ideas that will help ease the burden so the new parents can focus on their little pride and joy.

And that’s where friends and relatives can really make a big difference. By giving them some very practical and essential puppy gifts. They will appreciate being able to spend time with their new pup rather than searching the pet stores for supplies.

Even if you’re not a dog owner yourself you can quickly learn how to select some fantastic gifts for a new puppy. It’s not difficult to put together a quick list of things that’s needed and would make welcomed puppy gifts.

Things The New Puppy Owner Will Need

There are some basics that every new puppy owner will need. But the more you know about the new puppy, the easier it will be to pick the special puppy gifts that will really make a difference.

Here’s what I do... before I start thinking about which gifts to buy I a make a list of the things I know about the puppy.

I usually know the type of breed... how old the puppy is... how big the puppy will get based on the breed... how frequently this breed of puppy will need to be groomed... any special needs…

I may also know some things about the puppy’s new home... it will be a small apartment or a full size house…

It would also be good to know whether or not the puppy will have access to a fenced in yard.

This is all great information that you can get by having a casual conversation with the puppy’s parents.

When you’re finished gathering this valuable information, you should have a pretty good idea of the types of things your new puppy parents will need... now you’re ready to shop.

10 Very Practical New Puppy Gifts

  • Dog Crate - Often misunderstood... a dog crate is one of the most important puppy essentials. Don’t forget to include a dog crate training book or video with your gift.

  • Puppy Toys - a growing puppy will need a variety of puppy toys... puppy Kong chew toy... balls... tugs... and more. I always include at least one puppy teething toy in my gift boxes... the kind that you can wet and freeze works great to soothe the sore gums of a teething puppy.

  • Puppy Beds - Has their new puppy recently been separated from his canine mom? What could be more comforting then a gently heating puppy bed... with a life-like heart beat? The SnugglePuppie and ComfortPup make great puppy gifts for a pup who’s missing his canine mom.

  • Puppy Treats - Variety is the spice of life. Every puppy parent should have a cupboard full of yummy and nutritious dog treats. One of the best ways to train a pup is by reinforcing positive behavior with a tasty dog treat.

  • Dog Gates & Dog Pens - Make it easy to keep a puppy confined to a small easily cleaned area until he is fully housetrained. This will minimize potty training accidents and other destructive behavior. If a fenced in yard isn’t available, a dog exercise pen can provide a safe play area.

  • Doggie Dental Care Gifts - Many dog owners don’t realize that most cases of doggie-breath are actually caused by poor dental hygiene. Training a puppy to accept having his teeth brushed is an important part of preventative dog dental care.

  • New Puppy Gift Baskets - These baskets are filled with a great assortment of puppy stuff... if you have to ship your gift or you just don’t have a lot of time to shop around, you can have a festive new puppy gift basket delivered right to your pup’s home. A pup first aid gift basket is a very practical gift... your new puppy parents will be well prepared for any minor mishaps.

  • Veterinarian Gift Certificate - Is your new puppy owner on a limited budget? A gift certificate to the veterinarian is just one of many practical puppy gifts. It will come in very handy if funds get low and they must bring their baby in for routine visits. Try wrapping it in a box along with a puppy chew toy.

  • Pet Salon Gift Certificate - If their new puppy is a breed of dog that requires regular visits to the groomer to keep him looking his best, consider a gift certificate to a local doggie salon. You may also want to include a couple of doggie hair barrettes or bows.

If they plan on clipping their puppy at home a quality dog clipper and a good pair of scissors would make ideal puppy gifts.

  • Dog Store Gift Certificate - Still can’t decide? Then go with a gift certificate to a well stocked pet store.
