Stylish dog hats have always been popular with dog lovers and their pups just

love the extra attention they get.

But they’re even more popular with today’s concern about the damaging effects of the sun.

There are sooo… many styles and types of doggie hats available… but how do you decide which one is right for your pooch?

What should you consider when you want to add that final touch to your dog’s spring ensemble or holiday outfit?

Topping off your dog’s outfit with an appropriately fashionable dog hat is a given in the circles we run in.

Our favorite Chihuahua Paco just wouldn’t look right scurrying around our legs at the family gathering without his cute little sombrero and colorful vest.

But it’s even more important for his protection when we all go for our walk in the afternoon after our big meal and Paco is exposed to the strong rays of the hot summer sun.

Many vets tell us how important it is to protect our dog’s eyes and sensitive skin from the harmful rays of the sun. Dog’s can easily get a sunburn on their nose and the tips of their ears.

We all have our sun hats on to protect ourselves… and we want to do the same for our cute little tag-along. And if it’s sprinkling and we grab our umbrellas… it’s comforting to see Paco keeping cozy and dry in his little rain hat.

Elegant, Functional, Or Down Right Funny!

It’s great fun to match the dog hat with your pooch’s personality. Just like people, our pups can have interesting personality traits.

If they could talk, we’d usually be able to imagine what they would say and how they would express themselves.

My own dog Max is a bit of a rascal. I could easily imagine him giving me that “yeah, right!” look if I put a flowery spring hat on him… or one with ribbons and bows.

His personality calls for something a little more rugged… something like a cowboy hat. Especially, if he could run around playing with my nephews wearing theirs.

Or is your dog more like mine… a rough and tumble hound that I could swear looks at me with a mischievous smirk?

That look he gives me is best matched by a blue denim dog hat with a matching dog bandana around his neck. Somehow when he’s wearing that outfit it just seems so right!

Cool Dog Hats For All Occasions

But on holiday get togethers, it’s really fun to dress him up in one of those hilarious dog hats that match the occasion.

You know the ones… a bright red Santa hat or antlers to add to yuletide cheer… or a top hat with stars and stripes for the Fourth of July celebration.

The list of humorous dog hats available just goes on and on. You could dress your dog in cute pink bunny ears for spring events, or a clown hat with a bright orange wig for birthdays, or even a dapper top hat for the New Year’s Eve party.

Paco made us laugh one night by running around in a beanie with a little propeller on the top! He loves the attention and we looked forward to his next circle around the room.

While that look might not be right for your special pooch, there are sooo… many dog hats to choose from that you’ll have no trouble picking one that’s perfect for the personality of your pooch.
