Purchasing a Dog Carrier
for You & Your Pet

Pet owners that use a dog carrier are more likely to take their furry friend with them when they go on short or long trips.

It’s just much easier when you already own one when the need arises. So, let’s look at some features that you should consider if you are planning on purchasing a carrier for you pooch.

If you are planning to shop for a small dog carrier, then you should try to “think like a dog.”

Imagine what it might be like to be carried around in a sturdy yet pliable container.

Most small canines like to have a soft pillow or toy to lie on or next to while they remain in any confined space.

So you may want to look for one that offers a padded or cushioned interior that will ensure a softer trip for you little critter.

You’ll find these comfort features in many of the designer dog carriers, such as Coach, Roxy, Louis Dog as well as many others.

Because so many people travel by plane, it is fairly easy to understand the practicality associated with pet carrier totes and bags.

Those who own and use them find that they encounter few problems while traveling with a four legged friend. One of the most important safety features in any carrier is the closing mechanism.

If it can be accidentally opened by your pup or just by handling the carrier your pet could get out. Depending on where you are in your travels, this could put your pet in imminent danger.

Of course, even the best carriers do not come with any sort of alarm system, but selecting one that has a reliable closing mechanism that will not open unless you intend to open it should be top on your list!

Whether you plan to buy a cozy toy dog carrier or a dog crate type for a larger dog, you need to keep in mind a few facts.

A dog in a carrier should be able to turn around while being carried from place to place in that confined space. Therefore the size of a carrier is another very important feature.

If you will be traveling on a plane and have a small dog, you will want to get a carrier that can fit under the plane seat. Larger dogs will need to travel below in a hard plastic crate. You will also want to purchase a well ventilated carrier.

Finally, you owe it to yourself to look for a model that is relatively easy to clean. Another nice feature to consider is a removable interior or lining.

All dogs are different and as a pet owner your needs will also change. For that reason, you may even find that you could use more than one type of dog carrier.
