Small Dog Car Seats Are For Safety… But What About Your Dog’s Comfort?

Dog car seats are a must for all small dogs that love to ride in cars.
Does your pooch get all excited when she knows you’re taking her for a ride in the car?

Does she struggle and jump up just to see out the window… or try to climb in your lap for a better view?

We all want to keep our little dog’s safe… but we want them to be comfortable, too.

It’s no surprise that keeping our little pups safe and secure while going for a drive is important to most dog owners.

And for small dogs under 25 lbs, small canine car seats are just the thing.

Dog’s Just Love A Window Seat

Unlike dog car seats... most dog seat belt systems weren’t designed with our small dogs in mind.

And even if your small pooch was big enough to wear one, she probably wouldn’t be able to see out the window… and that’s just not an acceptable arrangement for most dogs.

We all know how irresistible a car window is to our canine friends… large and small.

Just look at all the nose prints and doggie drool they leave behind on our windows… and they love an open window even better yet!

So if your little pooch has to choose between lying down and resting, or jumping up to look out the window… you know where to put your money!

Well, canine car seats… or sometimes called a doggie booster seat… will allow your pooch to relax and ride in luxury… with a view!

One of these cozy little dog car seats will raise your pooch up to window height so that your dog can see what’s going on outside.

After a short adjustment period, most small dogs feel very secure in their dog car seats… some even jump right in and wait to be buckled up.

Dog car seats are like a nice comfy dog bed at window height… sounds like small doggie heaven to me!

And Let’s Not Forget Safety

And with a car seat, your pooch will love being able to see you from the back seat… which is the safest place for your baby… canine or human… to travel.

Although, you’ll find dog car seats that are advertised for use in the front passenger seat of a vehicle… this doesn’t mean that the front seat of your vehicle is the safest place for your pooch.

If you have a vehicle with an air bag … consider that an air bag can deploy at speeds over 140 miles per hour and they can be just as deadly to our dogs as to our small children.

But if your pooch just can’t bear to be away from your side… don’t sweat it!

There are console type dog car seats that will allow your dog to ride in the front on the console between driver and passenger seats.

These types of dog car seats can even be used with mini vans and SUV’s or any vehicle with bucket seats.

Sometimes It’s All About Convenience

Are you the kind of doggie parent that never likes to be caught short handed?

Well you’re not alone… many dog owners like to travel with a few extra doggie supplies… like treats, food, and toys.

I’m usually one of them, too. I like to have whatever I need to take care of any situation that arises. Especially with my little pooch.

But it can sometimes be annoying to have to carry an extra tote bag with all your doggie supplies.

Well, many dog car seats and dog booster seats are designed with storage compartments that can hold your pooch’s stuff.

So if a little extra storage sounds like a great idea… make sure you check out dog car seats with a convenient storage compartment.

Important Feature To Consider When Selecting Dog Car Seats

  • Installs In Back Seat - the back seat of the vehicle is the safest place in your vehicle for your dog to travel.

  • Seat Belt Slot - this is a must to keep the car seat securely fastened to the vehicle.

  • Dog Restraining Strap - for maximum safety for your pooch and passengers, it’s essential to keep your pooch safely restrained in the car seat.

  • Dog Harness - your pooch is going to need a comfortable harness that’s designed for use with dog car seats. They’re usually sold separately… so if you don’t already have one you’ll probably need to pick one up.

  • Your Dog’s Length - You’ll need to know your dog’s weight… but don’t forget to measure your dog’s length… so your pooch will be nice and comfy lying down as well as sitting up.

  • Thick Foam - As with a dog bed the more comfortable it is the more time your dog will want to spend in her dog car seat.

  • Storage compartment - Extra storage always comes in handy for toting your dog’s stuff… like water, treats, and toys.

  • Removable cover - as with anything well used… it will need to be cleaned… and your dog just may use it enough that you’ll need to launder or replace the cover.
